The voyage is expected to take between 40 and 45 days, with planned stops in Felixstowe (UK), Rotterdam (Netherlands), and Gdansk (Poland). Authorities estimate that this Arctic route could reduce travel times by up to 35 percent compared to the traditional Suez Canal route.

However, the initiative has drawn concern from Western diplomats. Because the route requires coordination and permits from Russia, some allies fear it undermines efforts to isolate Moscow following the invasion of Ukraine. Additionally, experts warn that South Korea could risk breaching international sanctions if the vessel requires Russian assistance to navigate ice-related issues.
