South Korean actress Nana faces appeal verdict in home invasion case
An appellate court in Seoul is set to deliver a verdict today regarding a 30-year-old man accused of breaking into the home of actress and former After School member Nana. The defendant, identified as Mr. A, was previously sentenced to seven years in prison in a first-instance trial for robbery and injury.
The incident occurred in November last year in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, when the suspect allegedly entered Nana’s residence with a weapon and threatened her and her mother. The two women managed to subdue the intruder after a physical struggle, though both sustained significant injuries requiring approximately one month of medical treatment.
Both the defendant and prosecutors have appealed the initial sentence. Prosecutors have requested a 10-year prison term, citing the suspect's criminal history and lack of remorse. The defendant has faced additional charges of false accusation after attempting to sue Nana for attempted murder and special injury during the struggle; however, police ruled her actions as self-defense.
Nana’s agency, Sublim, issued a statement criticizing the defendant for continuing to make false claims, such as denying the possession of a weapon, and for causing secondary harm to the victims through his legal tactics and letters to the media.
