Legal proceedings regarding Nana home invasion case
Overview
Following a home invasion in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, in November of the previous year, South Korean actress Nana and her mother were assaulted by a man in his 30s. The suspect allegedly entered the residence armed with a weapon and attempted to demand money, resulting in injuries for both women that required approximately one month of medical treatment.
A first-instance trial sentenced the defendant to seven years in prison for robbery and injury. Both the prosecution and the defendant appealed the initial verdict. Prosecutors sought a 10-year sentence, citing the suspect’s criminal history and lack of remorse, while the defendant made claims regarding the absence of a weapon and attempted to sue Nana for attempted murder—actions police ruled as self-defense.
The Seoul High Court subsequently rejected both appeals, upholding the original seven-year sentence. In its ruling, the court dismissed the defendant’s claims by citing victim testimony and the suspect’s own online posts. The defendant has since submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court for a final decision.
