South Korean actress Nana's assailant appeals 7-year prison sentence

A man in his 30s, identified as Kim, has appealed a seven-year prison sentence for breaking into the home of South Korean actress Nana (Im Jin-ah) and assaulting her and her mother.

The incident occurred in November last year in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, when the suspect entered the residence armed with a weapon and attempted to demand money. During the confrontation, Nana sustained injuries requiring 33 days of medical treatment, while her mother suffered injuries requiring 31 days of treatment.

In the appellate court, the Seoul High Court rejected both the defendant's and the prosecution's appeals, upholding the original seven-year sentence. The court dismissed the defendant's claim that he did not possess a weapon, citing consistent victim testimony and online posts made by the suspect seeking legal advice immediately after the crime. The court emphasized the severity of the crime, noting the intrusion into a private residence at night with a weapon.

Following the appellate ruling, the defendant submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court, moving the case to the highest level for a final decision.
