South Korean basketball teams receive Asian Games bonuses

South Korean men's and women's basketball teams have been awarded prize money following their successful performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The Korean teams achieved a dual gold medal feat in 5x5 basketball for the first time in 12 years, while also securing medals in the 3x3 basketball discipline.

The Korea Basketball League (KBL) and the Women's Korea Basketball League (WKBL) issued different bonus amounts: 100 million won for the KBL and 150 million won for the WKBL. Despite the men's team winning more gold medals (including 3x3), the women's bonus was higher because the WKBL included the 3x3 bronze medalists in their calculation, as all players were WKBL professionals.

In contrast, the KBL excluded the men's 3x3 gold medalists from their bonus pool because the players were university students rather than KBL professional members. The KBL stated that since their funds are contributed by professional member clubs, they maintained the principle of only rewarding league-affiliated players.
