South Korean lawmakers summon TVING and CJ ENM executives over data leaks
The South Korean National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee has summoned several executives to testify during upcoming parliamentary audits regarding major personal data breaches. Notably, TVING CEO Choi Ju-hee and CJ ENM CEO Yoon Sang-hyun have been selected as witnesses following a leak involving approximately 39.54 million accounts. Investigations revealed that TVING failed to address known security vulnerabilities identified in 2024, including exposed access keys in source code and overly broad developer permissions.
The audit will also scrutinize the security management systems of CJ ENM as the parent company. Additionally, Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) from major telecommunications providers SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus have been summoned to address their respective companies' data protection measures and incident response protocols.
Other companies facing scrutiny due to data leaks include Meta Korea, Woowa Brothers, Duo, and Toss Payments. The parliamentary sessions will also cover issues regarding Google and Apple's in-app payment systems, AI chatbot risks, and the distribution of illegal information on social media platforms.
