South Korean local governments announce budget increases and infrastructure projects
Local governments in South Korea are implementing new fiscal and infrastructure measures. Seocheon County has announced its second supplementary budget for 2026, increasing the amount by 45.8 billion won compared to the first supplementary budget. The funds will focus on essential projects, including the reconstruction of the Seocheon Specialized Market and various health and welfare initiatives. To manage limited resources, the county is implementing expenditure restructuring, such as reducing administrative expenses and adjusting underperforming projects.
In Yeongam County, a major flood prevention project is set to begin next year in the Sijong Mansu district. Following the securing of 11 billion won in national funds, the county will invest a total of 22 billion won to reinforce river embankments and reconstruct bridges to mitigate recurring flood damage. Additionally, Yeongam County plans to invest 2 billion won to create a neighborhood park near the Yeongam Eupseong fortress and will host a mobile outdoor cinema program throughout October to provide cultural opportunities to rural residents.
