Several South Korean medical professors have been selected as recipients of the 36th Science and Technology Outstanding Paper Award, organized by the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies.
Professor Kim Hyun-jung of Inje University Sanggye Paik Hospital was recognized for research published in the ‘Journal of Pathology and Translational Medicine’. Her study analyzed 5,854 cases of cervical malignant tumors across 22 domestic institutions, highlighting the diagnostic value of cytology in detecting tumors that occur independently of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
Three professors from Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center also received the award for diverse research contributions:
- Professor Lee Jae-ho analyzed the impact of increasing medical school enrollment quotas on anatomy practical training. - Professor Kim Hae-won identified methods to predict neurodevelopmental outcomes in extremely low birth weight infants using glucose metabolism imaging. - Professor Kim Jin-kyung elucidated the mechanisms behind antibiotic resistance transitions in pathogenic Klebsiella pneumoniae.
The award is a prestigious recognition in South Korea, established to encourage academic research and honor scientists who publish exceptional findings in domestic academic journals.
