South Korean medical sectors focus on AI and healthcare innovation
The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) participated in the KIMES BUSAN 2026 exhibition to showcase innovations in healthcare data and artificial intelligence. During the event, HIRA highlighted award-winning technologies from its startup competition, including an AI-based pharmacy kiosk by Pill Good, a voice AI monitoring device for heart failure by A.D. Cure, and a generative AI ECG platform by Wellysis.
HIRA is supporting the healthcare ecosystem by providing startup consulting, investment connections, and fee waivers for big data usage. The agency also promoted public services such as the 'My Medical Information Access Service' and emergency medical data services to improve patient care accessibility.
Separately, the Korean Academy of Family Medicine held its 2026 Autumn Academic Conference in Yeosu. The conference addressed five key medical trends: AI, prevention, aging populations, obesity, and cancer. Discussions focused on the evolving role of primary care in an era of super-intelligence and the impact of new GLP-1 obesity medications.
