South Korean municipalities launch local agricultural and community support programs
Various local government and community initiatives are being implemented across South Korean municipalities to support agriculture, the environment, and social welfare.
Gyeongsan City is providing free soil testing and beneficial microorganisms to farmers preparing for the next growing season. This initiative aims to reduce unnecessary fertilizer use and lower farming costs by analyzing soil pH, organic matter, and available phosphorus.
In Dangjin, several community actions are underway. A joint environmental cleanup involving public and private sectors was conducted at Waemok Village Beach to prepare for the Chuseok holiday. Additionally, Songak Middle School has partnered with a Food Bank to donate unconsumed school meals to vulnerable populations, a move intended to reduce food waste disposal costs and reinvest those funds into meal ingredients.
Local educational achievements were also noted, with the Dangjin Kendo Association donating funds to Shinpyeong Elementary School to support its kendo team, and Topdong Elementary School winning a silver award at the 27th National 119 Fire Song Contest.
