South Korean parties clash over economic outlook during Chuseok

South Korean political parties offered conflicting economic assessments during the Chuseok holiday, despite both emphasizing the importance of public livelihood.

The Democratic Party of Korea reported that the burden of preparing holiday ritual tables decreased by 2.3% compared to last year. They attributed this to government measures, including 193 billion won in discount support for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products, as well as increasing the supply of seasonal goods to 1.6 times the usual level. The party also highlighted consumption support for traditional markets through Onnuri gift certificate refunds.

In contrast, the People Power Party criticized the current administration and the ruling party, stating that high inflation and economic recession have pushed the livelihoods of ordinary citizens to the brink. They argued that the economic hardship is deepening in local commercial districts and criticized the government's handling of national affairs, promising to implement practical policies to address the ongoing livelihood crisis.
