South Korean conglomerates pledge >300 trillion won in AI, aerospace, automotive and space investments

Six major South Korean conglomerates – Samsung, SK, LG, Hyundai, Hanwha and Doosan – announced a combined investment of roughly 312 trillion won to develop AI, aerospace, future mobility and small‑modular‑reactor hubs in the Yeongnam region. The plan includes Samsung’s 60 trillion won AI and robotics projects, SK’s 140 trillion won AI data‑centre network, LG’s 9.4 trillion won AI infrastructure, Hyundai’s 42 trillion won AI‑defined‑vehicle and component cluster, and Hanwha’s 55 trillion won AIspace strategy.

The government also unveiled a space‑industry roadmap targeting a private‑sector lunar‑soft‑landing mission by 2030, commercialization of the Nuri rocket, and a Korean‑type low‑Earth‑orbit satellite communications network (a “K‑Starlink”) to be completed by 2035. The plan calls for a 4 447 billion‑won budget for the lunar project and up to 14.2 trillion won for the satellite constellation.

In the Chungnam region, a separate agreement secured about 202 trillion won for semiconductor, display and battery facilities, with Samsung, SK and Celltrion committing to HBM fabs, AI data‑centres and bio‑convergence clusters. Local officials highlighted the expected creation of thousands of jobs and the transformation of the area into a global advanced‑manufacturing hub.
