South Korean companies launch relief efforts for Gyeongnam flood victims
Major South Korean retail and financial institutions have launched extensive relief efforts following heavy rainfall and flooding in the Gyeongnam region, specifically affecting Geoje and Tongyeong.
In the retail sector, Coupang delivered 200 ‘Coupang Hope Boxes’ containing essential items like bedding and hygiene products to displaced residents in Geoje. Gmarket pledged 300 million won for recovery and is supporting local farmers and small businesses through promotional sales. Convenience store operators BGF Retail (CU) and Emart24 also utilized their logistics networks to distribute food and essential supplies to affected areas.
The four major financial groups—KB, Shinhan, Hana, and Woori—have collectively donated approximately 2.2 billion won to aid recovery. Beyond direct donations, these institutions are providing emergency financial relief, including low-interest loans for individuals and small businesses, deferrals on credit card payments, and insurance premium extensions. On-site support also includes the deployment of mobile meal services, relief tents, and emergency kits to assist both displaced residents and recovery workers.
