South Korean sports teams receive honors following Asian Games success
The Women's Korean Basketball League (WKBL) has announced a total prize pool of 150 million won for the national women's basketball team following their gold medal win at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. This marks the team's first Asian Games gold medal in 12 years. Additionally, the women's 3x3 basketball team will receive a portion of the funds after securing a bronze medal, the first for the discipline since its official inclusion in 2018.
In professional baseball, the Hanwha Eagles have appointed Ryu Ji-hyun as their 15th manager. Ryu, who recently led the South Korean national baseball team to a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games and an eighth-place finish at the World Baseball Classic, signed a three-year contract worth 2 billion won. The club also named Seok Jang-hyeon, a former employee, as the new general manager, marking the first time a staff member has been promoted to the position.
