South Korean stock and bond sales fund 8 trillion won in housing purchases
Data analyzed by National Assembly member Kim Jong-yang reveals that funds raised from selling stocks and bonds for housing purchases exceeded 8 trillion won in the first seven months of this year. This figure has seen a rapid increase from 1.1 trillion won in 2022.
More than half of these funds (52.9%) were used to purchase high-end properties valued at 1.5 billion won or more. The proportion of stock and bond liquidation funds used in the purchase of these expensive homes rose to 12.2%, compared to the 4–5% range seen in previous years.
Geographically, the capital is heavily concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area, with Seoul and Gyeonggi province accounting for 91.9% of the total. Within Seoul, the highest concentrations were found in Gangnam-gu, Songpa-gu, and Seocho-gu.
By age group, those in their 30s and 40s utilized the largest amounts of liquidated assets for housing. Regarding property types, apartments accounted for 89.1% of the total funds used.
