South Korean streamer harassed during live broadcast in Taksim

A South Korean social media streamer known as ‘withJENNY’ was subjected to sexual harassment and persistent stalking while conducting a live broadcast in the Taksim district of Beyoğlu, Istanbul.

During the live stream, an unidentified individual approached the streamer, asked if she had friends nearby, and made inappropriate propositions. Despite the streamer attempting to communicate in English and stating she did not understand Turkish, the individual continued to follow her through the streets. The incident was witnessed by thousands of viewers watching the live broadcast.

Following an investigation, police identified and detained a 59-year-old suspect, identified as A. A., in the Sarıyer district. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspect for the crime of ‘sexual harassment,’ and an administrative fine of 1,764 Turkish Lira was also applied under the Misdemeanor Law.
