South Korean telecom providers implement Chuseok holiday network measures
South Korea's three major telecommunications providers—SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus—are implementing special measures to ensure stable network services during the upcoming Chuseok holiday period. The companies are preparing for surges in data traffic caused by travel, video calls, and OTT streaming.
SK Telecom is deploying 3,625 personnel to monitor networks 24 hours a day, utilizing AI-based systems such as ‘A-One’ and ‘Spider’ to detect quality degradation. To support its partners, SK Telecom is also making early payments totaling 131.8 billion won to approximately 200 partner companies and 250 distribution networks. Additionally, the company will offer free video calling services from the 24th to the 27th.
KT is focusing on intensive network management in high-traffic areas like resorts and family gathering spots, while also strengthening security monitoring against smishing. LG Uplus has optimized base station quality and increased cache server capacity to handle increased media consumption. Both KT and LG Uplus are also providing early payments to their respective partners to alleviate financial burdens during the holiday.
