South Korean woman arrested for killing mother in Seoul
A woman in her 40s has been arrested on charges of murdering her 60-year-old mother in the Gangseo District of Seoul. The incident occurred on the morning of May 22 at a residence in Ujangsan-dong.
The suspect reportedly contacted police herself, initially claiming she had “done something bad to her stepmother.” However, investigators determined the victim was actually her biological mother. During the initial report, the suspect also alleged that her mother had attempted to feed her poisoned food, though police have found no evidence of poison being used.
While investigators have not identified specific financial disputes or long-standing grudges, they have obtained statements suggesting the suspect frequently directed verbal abuse toward the victim. The suspect has denied the murder charges during police questioning. A judge issued the arrest warrant on May 24, citing a risk of flight.
