South Korea's Andong region recovers from heavy rain flooding

Intensive rainfall that began on 18 May caused widespread flooding across the Andong area and other parts of South Korea. In Andong, joint civil‑military recovery teams deployed 666 personnel over three days to clear inundated homes, restore flooded fields and repair damage to 23 public facilities, including roads and waterways. The city provided temporary shelters, food and relief supplies to displaced residents, and is arranging modular housing for families still without homes.

Nationwide, the heavy rain forced more than 600 people to evacuate temporarily, affected roughly 134 football‑field‑sized hectares of cropland, and triggered 1,276 firefighting and rescue operations. Authorities reported 521 incidents of damage to private and public structures, of which 444 have been fully restored. No fatalities have been recorded. Ongoing efforts focus on repairing roads, reinforcing riverbanks, and supporting affected farmers with pest‑control and drainage assistance.
