South Korea's former first lady Kim Keon-hee appears before special prosecutor over presidential residence probe

Kim Keon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk‑yeol, was brought from detention to the headquarters of the comprehensive special investigation team for a second round of questioning. The team, led by special prosecutor Kwon Chang‑young, is probing allegations that she used her position to favor interior‑design firm 21 Gram in securing the contract for moving and renovating the presidential residence, and that she received Dior clothing and other valuables worth about 10 million won as bribes.

The investigation also examines claims that budget from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety was illegally diverted to the project and that audit procedures were suppressed. Kim, who is currently incarcerated at Seoul Southern Prison, reportedly refused to make extensive statements during the session. Her appearance marks the first time she has been summoned since the probe began 147 days ago, after several health‑related postponements. The probe also involves other officials, including former chief of staff Kim Dae‑gi, who are already on trial for related charges.
