South Korea's Seoul region flooded by torrential rain, landslide alerts

Heavy rain across Seoul and nearby provinces dumped up to nearly 200 mm of precipitation overnight, prompting flood damage and landslide warnings. Authorities recorded 117.9 mm in Seoul, 109.7 mm in Incheon and over 150 mm in northern Gyeonggi cities such as Paju and Dongducheon. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters reported 540 cases of property damage, including 148 flooded homes and 392 incidents of fallen trees or debris. About 95 people from 44 households were temporarily evacuated, and access to ten national parks, 275 hiking trails and seven west‑coast ferry routes was suspended. No human casualties were reported. Prime Minister Han Seong‑sook ordered emergency equipment and personnel to be deployed, and the Korea Forest Service issued landslide alerts for the Greater Seoul area. Rain is forecast to continue through Sunday, with intensities potentially reaching 300 mm per hour in some locations, prompting ongoing warnings for Gangwon, Chungcheong and broader Gyeonggi provinces.
