South Lebanon communities face aid and education challenges amid conflict

In South Lebanon, humanitarian organizations and local institutions are working to maintain community stability despite ongoing conflict. L’Œuvre d’Orient has mobilized aid to support displaced families and Christian villages in border areas such as Rmeich and Qleyaa. Between March and August 2026, over €140,000 was raised to provide food, medicine, gas, and fuel to isolated villages, alongside psychological support for 275 families through the association Libami.

Simultaneously, the academic year has commenced in South Lebanon under difficult circumstances. While many students have relied on online learning due to the war, local municipalities and religious congregations have pushed for the reopening of schools in person to prevent further displacement. However, educators face significant challenges, including students who have lost homes to bombings, those living as displaced persons in other regions, and those unable to travel due to security restrictions and combat zones.
