Israel conducts airstrikes in southern Lebanon amid ceasefire violations

Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have caused significant casualties and destruction, despite a US-brokered framework agreement and ceasefire intended to halt violence. Lebanese authorities reported that the strikes killed at least seven people and injured dozens in areas including Nabatieh, Arab Salim, and Kfar Remman. Notable damage includes the destruction of an out-of-service hospital in Nabatieh al-Fawqa and a historical building in Nabatieh.

The Israeli military stated the operations were a response to Hezbollah launching two drones toward its forces in a designated security zone. The IDF also reported targeting Hezbollah command centers and weapons storage facilities. In response to the escalation, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attacks, stating they represent a “dangerous escalation” that targets state institutions and civilian infrastructure, exceeding previous violations of the ceasefire.

President Aoun has called on the United States and the international community to intervene urgently to stop the strikes. The Lebanese Ministry of Health noted that since March 2, 2026, the conflict has resulted in 4,362 deaths and 12,378 injuries. Total casualties since October 2023 have reached approximately 8,929 deaths and over 30,000 injuries.
