South Pelion municipality to debate wind farm installations

The Municipality of South Pelion has scheduled a special session of the Municipal Council for Wednesday, September 23, 2026, to address the installation of wind turbines and wind farms in the region. The meeting, held at the KEGE Argalastas, will provide updates on judicial, administrative, and institutional actions taken by the municipality regarding these energy projects.

The Council is expected to discuss the issuance of a resolution opposing the installation of wind power stations within the municipality's administrative boundaries. Mayor Michalis Mitzikos emphasized the importance of coordination among local representatives and collectives to protect the natural environment, productive landscape, and cultural character of South Pelion.

Additionally, the municipality is organizing a seminar in Milies on Saturday, October 24, in collaboration with academics. This event will focus on the new Special Spatial Plan for Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and its potential implications for the South Pelion area.
