Indonesia experiences multiple earthquakes in Cilacap, Pacitan, and NTT

Indonesia has experienced a series of seismic events across several regions. In Cilacap, Central Java, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck on September 4, 2026, with tremors felt as far as Yogyakarta. The epicenter was located 77 kilometers southeast of Cilacap at a depth of 10 kilometers. This quake was felt by residents during Friday prayers, though no immediate reports of damage or casualties were confirmed.

In East Java, Pacitan recorded multiple tremors, including a magnitude 4.5 earthquake on September 3 and a subsequent magnitude 2.6 quake. The Cilacap earthquake was also felt in Pacitan. Authorities in Pacitan are monitoring the situation, noting that 18 seismic events have been recorded in the area since September 1.

In Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education is accelerating data collection for damaged schools following recent earthquakes. As of August 16, 253 educational units were reported affected, including casualties of two students and one teacher. Despite the disasters, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported that NTT recorded a deflation of 0.40 percent in August 2026.
