South Tangerang Police investigate 340,000 SGD counterfeit currency case

Police in South Tangerang are investigating a major counterfeit currency case involving approximately 340,000 Singapore Dollars (SGD), valued at roughly 4.7 billion Indonesian Rupiah. The investigation follows a report filed in July 2024, which has led to the detention of an Indonesian citizen, identified as Steven (S), in Singapore.

According to legal counsel Yosia MPT Ginting Suka, the incident began when Steven received a single 10,000 SGD note from an individual linked to a person identified as AN. After facing rejections from various money changers, Steven successfully exchanged one note at Resorts World Sentosa in June 2024. Subsequently, AN and two associates, HJ and EAK, allegedly provided Steven with an additional 33 notes of 10,000 SGD each.

Of these 33 notes, 27 were taken to Singapore, while six remained in Indonesia before being sent back to Singapore for exchange. Authorities in Singapore are currently in possession of all 34 counterfeit notes. The South Tangerang Police are coordinating with the Indonesian National Police's International Division to communicate with Singaporean authorities regarding the ongoing investigation.
