Overview

Authorities in Singapore and Indonesia are investigating separate incidents involving counterfeit Singapore currency.

In August 2026, two Chinese nationals, Yang Zelong and Han Wenqian, were charged with conspiracy to counterfeit Singapore currency following an incident at the Marina Bay Sands hotel. A casino cashier identified a S$100 note with the word ‘COPY’ printed on it. A subsequent police search of the suspects' hotel room uncovered 121 counterfeit S$100 notes with identical serial numbers, along with printing equipment.

In a related investigation involving approximately 340,000 SGD, South Tangerang Police are coordinating with Singaporean authorities regarding a cross-border case. The investigation involves an Indonesian citizen, identified as Steven (S), who allegedly received multiple counterfeit 10,000 SGD notes. While some notes were exchanged at Resorts World Sentosa, authorities in Singapore are currently in possession of 34 counterfeit notes.
