South Tyrol teachers to receive up to €6,000 salary raise and accelerated career path
State school teachers in South Tyrol have reached a partial collective agreement that provides structural salary increases of €2,000 to €6,000 per year, applied retroactively from January 2026 and linked to seniority. The deal also allows newly hired teachers with a recognised degree to request immediate placement in the higher pay band for the first three years starting September 2026, speeding up career progression.
The regional government has earmarked more than €60 million annually to fund the raises and related allowances. The agreement still requires review by the Court of Accounts and the national Ministry of Education before it can be signed, published and reflected in payrolls. Unions noted the measure balances recognition of teachers’ work with the need to make the profession more attractive, while also warning about inflation and international economic conditions.
