The English Football Association has charged Southampton manager Tonda Eckert with three breaches of FA rule E3.1 for misconduct between December 2025 and May 2026. The charges relate to the “Spygate” scandal in which the club authorised staff to observe training sessions of Championship rivals Oxford United, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough ahead of matches.

The FA statement said the coach “acted in an improper manner and/or brought the game into disrepute by directing and/or authorising the observation of training sessions.” Eckert has until 28 July 2026 to respond and faces the possibility of a coaching ban.

Southampton were expelled from the Championship play‑off final after the spying was uncovered, losing a chance at Premier‑League promotion valued at about £200 million, and have been deducted four points for the 2026‑27 season. The club has pledged full cooperation and reiterated its support for Eckert, with owner Dragan Solak saying he will not dismiss the coach despite the sanctions.
