Southend East station accessibility upgrades reach major milestone
GBR Anglia and contractor Octavius have reached a major construction milestone at Southend East station through the installation of key sections for a new accessible footbridge and lift shafts. Using large cranes, teams positioned substantial concrete and steel components to support the upcoming infrastructure.
The project is part of the Department for Transport’s ‘Access for All’ scheme. Once completed, the upgrades will include two new lifts and a fully accessible footbridge, designed to assist passengers with mobility needs, luggage, or pushchairs.
Following this phase, work will shift toward fitting out the footbridge, installing lift equipment, and conducting testing and commissioning. Pending successful safety checks and authorization, the new facilities are expected to enter public service in spring 2027.
