Southern Italian regional railways implement service updates and restorations

Regional railway services in Southern Italy are undergoing significant updates and restorations. In Puglia, FS Sud Est is implementing a new winter schedule starting September 14. This includes increased services in the Bari metropolitan area, such as the Bari-Putignano line, which will see a 30% increase in capacity compared to last year. Additionally, the Lecce–Nardò–Gagliano del Capo line is set to be reactivated following infrastructure repairs.

In Basilicata, rail connections are also being restored. Following the demolition of the Tiera viaduct, service on the Potenza-Melfi line will resume on September 13, providing 18 weekday connections. Furthermore, the Potenza-Salerno service is expanding from 16 to 18 daily trips, adding new stops to serve Bella Muro and surrounding areas. While the Potenza-Melfi line is operational, connections toward Foggia will continue to rely on bus transfers due to ongoing issues in the Capraia 2 tunnel.
