Southern Italy records two early‑morning earthquakes

At 06:08 local time a magnitude‑3.0 earthquake was detected near the border of Basilicata and Campania, centred between Moliterno (Potenza) and Montesano sulla Marcellana (Salerno). The quake occurred at a depth of about 13 km, was felt by residents in nearby towns, and caused no injuries or damage. Local civil‑protection authorities are monitoring the situation.

A second tremor struck the southern Tyrrhenian Sea at 05:51, registering a magnitude of 3.9. Its epicentre was offshore, north‑east of Filicudi and north‑west of Salina in the Aeolian Islands, at an unusual depth of roughly 306 km. Because of this depth, the shaking was barely perceptible on the islands and along the coast. Both events are part of the normal seismic activity of the Apennine and Aeolian regions, prompting continued observation by the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).
