Deep Tyrrhenian Sea quake of magnitude 4.7 felt across Sicily and Calabria

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck the deep Tyrrhenian Sea on 13 June 2026 at 19:28 local time. The INGV located the epicenter at 38.6780° N, 15.4683° E, about 54 km north‑north‑west of Messina and 37 km west of Tropea, with a hypocentral depth of roughly 214 km.

Because of its great depth, the quake generated seismic waves that were felt over a wide area of southern Italy, including many towns in Sicily and Calabria, though the shaking was generally light. No damage to people or property was reported. The event is described as part of the normal seismic activity of the southern Tyrrhenian basin, where deep tremors are common and tend to spread energy over large regions without causing significant surface impact.
