Soybean cultivation in Poland: Key factors for maximizing yields

Farmers in Poland are sharing insights on optimizing soybean yields, which can reach over 4 t/ha depending on regional conditions and management practices. In southern Poland, record yields of 5 to 6 t/ha have been observed using specific varieties, particularly in the southeastern regions.

Key factors influencing success include soil quality, moisture availability during critical growth phases, and variety selection. In drought-prone areas, farmers suggest that indeterminate growth varieties may perform better than determinate ones by utilizing late-season rainfall. Proper agrotechnics, such as maintaining pod height above 10 cm and managing herbicide phytotoxicity, are also vital.

In northern Poland, such as the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, yields around 3 t/ha are targeted. Challenges in these regions include lighter soils with lower water capacity and the need for earlier-maturing varieties. Strategic decisions, such as early sowing to avoid pigeon damage and proximity to collection points to avoid seed drying costs, significantly impact the economic viability of soybean production.
