Soybean futures fluctuate ahead of U.S.-China trade talks

Soybean futures experienced volatility this week, reversing a significant rally from Monday with declines on Tuesday morning. Market movement is heavily influenced by anticipation surrounding upcoming trade negotiations between the United States and China. Traders are monitoring potential developments regarding tariffs and diplomatic discussions between leadership.

Export data shows robust activity, with soybean shipments totaling 759,193 metric tons for the week of September 17, an 11.6% increase from the previous week. China remains a primary destination, receiving 446,789 metric tons. Domestically, the U.S. soybean harvest is progressing at 12% completion, outpacing the typical 8% average for this period. Crop condition ratings remain steady at 58% good to excellent.

In South America, the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange projects Argentina’s 2026/27 soybean crop at 53.6 million tons, an increase of 3.5 million tons over the previous year. Meanwhile, corn and wheat markets are also seeing fluctuations as traders await official supply and demand updates from the USDA and CONAB.
