Space debris mitigation: Robotic missions and laser technology

New technological approaches are being developed to address the growing issue of space debris in Earth's orbit. Robotic missions are being designed to demonstrate orbital sustainability by managing the end-of-life phase for satellites. These efforts aim to address debris accumulation in both geostationary “graveyard” orbits and the increasing number of defunct systems in Low-Earth Orbit.

Additionally, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is researching a strategy to combat space junk using laser technology. This method involves using photons to push debris out of its current trajectory, providing a potential solution to protect the satellite industry from the risks posed by orbital clutter.
