SpaceX seeks new location to expand Starship launch operations

SpaceX is facing significant space constraints at its Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas. The current site, covering approximately 1,000 acres, is limited by the Mexican border to the south, the Gulf of Mexico to the east, and South Bay to the north. This lack of acreage is insufficient to support the company’s long-term operational goal of launching thousands of Starships annually by 2030.

To accommodate massive expansion, SpaceX requires a location with vast acreage, coastal access for safe over-water launches, low population density, and efficient southward trajectories. Louisiana has been identified as a potential candidate due to its geography and proximity to natural gas sources.

The rapid industrialization of the Boca Chica region has transformed the local landscape, creating a stark contrast between the high-tech space race and the surrounding traditional communities along the Rio Grande.
