SpaceX Starbase Louisiana development

Overview

SpaceX has moved from preliminary discussions regarding a new Louisiana spaceport to announcing a massive, formal development project.

Initial reports indicated that Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry was expected to announce a multibillion-dollar deal to construct a facility near Abbeville to support Starship rocket launches over the Gulf of Mexico.

Following these developments, SpaceX announced the construction of ‘Starbase Louisiana,’ a self-sufficient spaceport in Vermilion Parish estimated to cost 100 billion dollars. The facility is designed to support high-cadence operations of more than 30 Starship flights per day using multiple launch towers and complexes. The project, which includes infrastructure for fuel, power, and residential areas, is slated to begin construction in late 2027 with the first launches anticipated in 2029.
