SpaceX has announced a massive $100 billion project to construct a new spaceport, named Starbase Louisiana, in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana. The facility is planned to be built on approximately 125,000 acres of coastal land, including Pecan Island. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the first Starship launch from the site targeted for 2029.

Designed to support high-frequency operations, the complex could eventually accommodate more than 30 Starship launches per day. The site will feature five independent launch complexes, each with two launch pads and large propellant farms. To ensure self-sufficiency, the facility will integrate on-site rocket fuel production, power generation, a deep-water maritime port, and potentially an airport.

Beyond launch capabilities, the project is linked to SpaceX's broader ambitions, including orbital AI data centers and expanding the Starlink satellite network. While the project is expected to create thousands of jobs for the region, it has also drawn attention from environmental groups regarding its impact on coastal wetlands and wildlife habitats.
