SpaceX to build 100 billion dollar space base in Louisiana
SpaceX has announced plans to construct a massive, self-sufficient spaceport in Louisiana, dubbed Starbase Louisiana. The project, estimated to cost 100 billion dollars, will span over 50,000 hectares in Vermilion Parish near Pecan Island.
Designed to support the high-cadence launch of the Starship rocket, the facility aims to host more than 30 flights per day. The complex is expected to feature over a dozen launch towers and five launch complexes. Once fully operational, it is intended to facilitate missions to the Moon, Mars, and orbital data centers.
Construction is projected to begin as early as late 2027, with the first Starship launch at the site anticipated in 2029. The development is expected to create over 3,000 jobs and includes infrastructure for fuel production, power generation, and residential areas for employees. To mitigate environmental impact on the coastal area, SpaceX has committed to ecological restoration and the construction of protective sea walls.
Wall Street analysts have reacted positively to the expansion. While SpaceX is expected to spend 1.4 trillion dollars on facilities and equipment by 2031, analysts from Morgan Stanley and Wolfe Research view the increased launch capacity as a significant driver for future revenue.
