SpaceX plans $100B Starbase Louisiana facility with $27.5B in tax incentives
SpaceX is advancing plans for its $100 billion Starbase Louisiana facility in Vermilion Parish, which is expected to include between 10 and 12 Starship launch pads. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry stated that official permits for the spaceport should be issued within the next six months.
To support the project, SpaceX is set to receive an estimated $27.5 billion in tax incentives. This package includes a 25-year property-tax exemption valued at approximately $23.8 billion. While critics argue the incentives are excessive, state officials maintain the deal secures massive private investment and thousands of high-paying jobs, with a commitment of at least 3,000 permanent positions.
To facilitate high-frequency launches, SpaceX intends to produce liquid methane on-site. French firm Technip Energies is reportedly a candidate for a contract worth over $10 billion to construct a natural gas liquefaction facility to supply the Starship engines.
