SpaceX completes SES O3b mPOWER satellite constellation

SpaceX successfully launched the final three satellites of the O3b mPOWER constellation for Luxembourg-based SES on September 13, 2026. The mission, designated O3b mPOWER-F, utilized a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. This launch completes the 13-satellite fleet designed to provide high-performance, low-latency broadband connectivity via medium Earth orbit (MEO) at an altitude of approximately 5,000 miles.

The satellites, manufactured by Boeing using the 702X platform, are intended for enterprise-grade services. Target sectors include maritime, aviation, government, and telecommunications, offering high-capacity bandwidth that can be dynamically allocated. Unlike SpaceX’s Starlink, which focuses on direct-to-consumer services in low Earth orbit, the O3b mPOWER network is positioned as a dedicated connectivity solution for large-scale commercial and sovereign needs.

The mission also marked a significant milestone for SpaceX, representing the 700th flight of the Falcon rocket family. The first-stage booster, B1080, completed its 29th mission by successfully landing on the droneship ‘A Shortfall of Gravitas’ in the Atlantic Ocean. The full O3b mPOWER constellation is expected to be fully operational by mid-2027.
