Spain advances major biomass and solar energy projects

Spain is advancing two major renewable energy projects in the regions of Castilla y León and Extremadura.

In Segovia, the Junta de Castilla y León has launched a tender for a new biomass plant with a budget of 18.3 million euros. The facility is designed to supply a sustainable heating network for approximately 7,000 homes and 40 public buildings. The plant will have a thermal power of 28.4 MW, utilizing 30,000 tons of sustainable forest wood chips annually to produce 75 million kWh of thermal energy.

In Extremadura, the regional government has declared the CSF Arco I solar plant a matter of public utility, enabling urgent land expropriation near Cáceres. The project, promoted by Gandasolar 16, SL, has a budget of approximately 28.8 million euros. The photovoltaic installation will feature over 76,000 bifacial panels with an installed capacity of 45.12 MW.
