Spain advances port infrastructure projects in Seville and Salamanca

The Port Authority of Seville (APS) is constructing a new rail crossing at the Seville port near Palmas Altas. The project includes three tracks capable of handling trains up to 750 metres long, aiming to reduce turnaround times and improve competitiveness. It was awarded to a joint venture of Magtel Operaciones, Extraco, Construcciones e Proxectos for €6.49 million (including VAT) and is scheduled for completion by 31 December 2026. The upgrade supports the European Transport Network Core Node.

In Salamanca, the dry port is undergoing a €5 million expansion funded by the Junta de Castilla y León. The works will add two storage warehouses for cereals and fertilisers, a container handling building, and four large truck scales across 88 000 m². The facility will accommodate trains up to 750 metres, store up to 900 TEU, and is projected to move around 700 000 tonnes of cargo annually once operational.
