Spain advances urban modernization through LED lighting and Smart City assessments

Spanish municipalities are increasingly adopting LED technology to modernize public infrastructure. These projects aim to improve energy efficiency, durability, and light quality across streets, parks, and commercial zones. A notable example is the Elche Club de Fútbol project at the Martínez Valero stadium, which is replacing old lighting with 204 high-generation LED projectors to meet high-definition television broadcasting standards and provide uniform light on the pitch.

Simultaneously, Red.es has launched a consultancy service to measure the digital maturity and impact of Smart City policies across 65 Spanish cities and territories. This initiative evaluates how digital transformation affects economic, social, and environmental development. The study aims to move beyond infrastructure deployment to assess how these technologies improve the living conditions of citizens and the overall functioning of diverse territorial profiles.
