Spain advances water infrastructure with leak repairs in Luarca and digital overhaul in Costa del Sol

The municipality of Valdés in Asturias is completing a €300,000 project to seal critical water‑pipeline leaks under the River Negro in Luarca. Divers accessed the conduits to fix the cracks, and intermittent pump shutdowns caused temporary discoloration of the river. The work, carried out by Tragsa with European Union funds, aims to prevent future contaminations of the town’s beaches ahead of the summer season.

In the Costa del Sol Occidental, the public water manager Acosol has launched the Agua 360 programme, a €3.74 million digital transformation of the urban water cycle. Funded with €3.29 million from the EU Next Generation Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, the initiative will install real‑time monitoring tools, improve response times to incidents, and increase efficiency and transparency across 51 planned actions.
