Spain allocates €15 million to upgrade hospitality sector’s energy efficiency

The Spanish Council of Ministers approved a €15 million ‘Plan de Choque’ to fund the replacement of equipment and climate‑control systems in hospitality establishments. Grants range from €5,000 to €11,000 per venue and cover 100 % of eligible costs, with a minimum subsidy of €5,000 and a maximum of €11,000. Up to 300,000 hotels, restaurants and similar businesses across Spain can apply, provided the new equipment meets high‑efficiency standards and does not rely on fossil fuels such as natural gas.

Applications open on 5 August 2024 at 10:00 h and close on 30 September 2026 at 15:00 h, or earlier if the fund is exhausted. The scheme, overseen by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and announced by Minister Jordi Hereu, aims to lower energy expenses, boost competitiveness and support the sector’s role in national tourism employment.

The subsidies are a one‑time payment, available to individuals, companies, civil societies and community businesses that operate accommodation or restaurant services in Spain.
