Spain allocates €165 million to seven pumped‑hydro storage projects
The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), through the Institute for Energy Diversification and Savings (IDAE), awarded €165 million in funding for seven reversible pumped‑hydro storage projects. The projects are located in Andalusia, two in Asturias, Aragon, Extremadura, Catalonia and Galicia and will add 2,071 MW of generating capacity and 21,091 MWh of storage to the Spanish power grid. The programme, BORALMAC II, is financed with NextGenerationEU funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan. It aims to increase grid flexibility and support the integration of renewable electricity, improving security and reliability of supply.
