Spain allocates €4 million to restore Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo site, plus €50 k for Aldeacentenera parcels

The Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Miteco) will provide four million euros to restore the Peñarroya‑Pueblonuevo industrial complex, a former major coal‑mining and lead‑smelting centre that was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 2018. The funding, supplied by the Institute for the Just Transition, will be managed by the Fundación Ciudad de la Energía through the Compás programme, with support from the Ministry of Culture and local authorities, to preserve the heritage buildings and promote tourism, cultural and economic activity.

Separately, the town council of Aldeacentenera has approved an investment of 50,688 euros to rehabilitate 13 industrial parcels. The measure is part of a long‑term strategy to generate employment and strengthen the local economy in the municipality.
