Spain allocates 90 million euros to regions implementing rent controls
The Spanish Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda is preparing a royal decree to distribute 90 million euros to autonomous communities that have designated stressed residential market zones. This measure provides economic incentives for regions implementing rent control mechanisms under the national housing law.
The majority of the funds will be allocated to Catalonia and the Basque Country, which together will receive approximately 75.2 million euros, or 84% of the total fund. Specifically, the Generalitat of Catalonia is set to receive 59.7 million euros, while the Basque Country will receive 15.5 million euros. Other recipients include Navarra (6.7 million euros), Galicia (5.1 million euros), and Asturias (nearly 3 million euros).
These subsidies are intended to address housing imbalances and can be used for various purposes, including the construction of public housing, building rehabilitation, affordable rental projects, land acquisition, and the purchase of existing homes to expand the public housing stock. The funding is linked to regional plans designed to correct market imbalances in areas where housing costs are disproportionately high.
