Spanish regions boost funding for health, social and housing programs

The Spanish central government and regional authorities announced several funding allocations for social and health initiatives. Castilla‑La Mancha's neighbouring autonomous community Castilla y León will receive €1.49 million from the national drug plan to support prevention, treatment and reintegration programmes for addiction, including €242,928 for prevention and €658,245 from seized assets.

In Madrid, the city council confirmed a €500,000 annual sponsorship of the MADOMadridOrgullo 2026 LGTBI pride event and an additional €665,000 in grants to LGTBI organisations. The same municipal government approved a €1.5 million grant programme to create “Offices of Independent Living” that assist people with physical, intellectual or severe mental disabilities.

Castilla y León also unveiled a €270.7 million European‑funded “just transition” plan for the provinces of León and Palencia, aimed at creating jobs and diversifying the economy as coal‑related industries close.

Madrid’s municipal housing agency (EMVS) will receive €31.6 million from the city – €11.3 million for operating costs and €20.3 million to finance new affordable‑rental housing projects, adding to the city's leadership in public‑housing construction.

Finally, the Madrid city hall allocated €11 million to the “Family Card” programme, a prepaid benefit that helps low‑income households cover food, hygiene and transport costs, with monthly allowances ranging from €146 to €735.
